Faux Pas

“Looks great!” – the email response that misses important questions

This has to be one of the most common and frustrating experiences in digital office culture (totally independent of whether or not it’s your supervisor writing you back):

You provided the item in question and asked one very simple question. What did you get back?

“Looks great!”

We all get too much email, are all too busy, and all miss things. It happens.

Please make it your goal to actually read the emails you are responding to, though. There isn’t a whole more frustrating (or even, like, reverse-embarrassing) than having to find yet another way of saying, “Hey, can you please answer the question I already asked you two emails ago?”

There are a million different variations on this same situation, and you’ve probably been responsible for as many as you’ve received. If you start receiving emails from your colleages with questions in bold (or even *gasp* bold red), you may have an ongoing issue.
